Folding Table for First Lego League

Because of COVID-19, our partner First Lego League team needed a folding table they could use for practice. We looked for table plans that would work, with some pretty basic rules. It had to be:

  • Official size

  • Inexpensive (this is important!)

  • Foldable

  • Able to be picked up and moved by no more than two people

  • Able to be placed in the trunk for a Subaru Forester or similar

  • High enough quality that it can be used for competitions

  • Able to buy all the components at our local hardware store (we live in a rural area, so we had to be able to readily use what was available)

We found a design online that looked like it would work. Its a tri-fold table design by Lance Salyers. The plans are online here. For the most part, the plans worked, but we had to use some slightly different wood than called for in the plan. This result in a slightly warped base. To fix the base, we purchased four small, flat latched(like these) and put then underneath the table, where the sections meet. These fixed the issue, and the team has been using the table all year, even for competitions!
