Attachments & Jigs

Our attachments are almost pinless, very sturdy and are very easy and fast to put on. They range from very simple to very complex. The attachments use latches to keep them on the robot.

We learned a lot about gears this season and gear ratios because our system to raise the basketball system was not strong enough

We use jigs to align our robot at the beginning of each launch. We have two big jigs and attachments to modify one of them

Dumper

This attachment is used to carry and drop items, such as the cubes for the bocci mission (dropping them into the frame) and the health missions and our innovation project (dropped on the grey bench area).

Cube sharing

This attachment is our simplest attachment. It used for sending the boccia cube onto the other table. It is the only function of this attachment. Our original plan was to have two of these, one for each cube color, but as all of our tournaments are remtote, we only built one.

Pull-up Bar

Some of our attachments are pretty complicated. This includes the attachment to lift our robot up on the pull-up bar at the end of the match. This was also one of the first attachments we made! This attachment is complex because it has to lift the weight of the while robot evenly off the ground. It uses both medium motors to accomplish this.

Blue Triangle

This attachment is used for our “blue triangle” mission, which accomplishes four things: step counter (all the way to blue), drives under pull-up bar, knocks one guy off the slide, and brings him home. Its a really simple attachment, but it works great!

BENCH

This carries four cubes, three health units, and Sebastian (or innovation project) to the innovation bench. It knocks down the bench, removes the bar, and then dumps the cubes, health units, and Sebastian in the right places in the grey area. Most of the equipment is left behind, and setting this up is a bit complicated. As a result, this is always the first attachment we use.

BOCCI BALL

This is a replacement for both the basketball list and the cube sharing mission.

This mission is complete and should replace the more simple cube sharing attachment, providing 15 more points by lifting the basketball to the middle. But it is our newest attachment and we have not fully tested it. As a result, it may or may not end up in a final run.

Jigs

We use jigs to align our robot at the beginning of each launch. We have one big jig and attachments to modify it to change the angle and also to change the starting location of the robot. Jigs give us a lot of repeatability, which we like.

Cube Dropper

This is probably the coolest of our attachments. And maybe the most complicated. It is designed to drop cubes, one at a time, into a given area. Its has a pretty complicated gear system to ensure the cubes drop slowly. It was built to drop cube into the bench area and into the basketball system. Unfortunately, while its really precise, its too slow and so we are not using it.

Basketball Lift

This was the hardest attachment we built. Its is designed to lift the basketball system al the way up. It was really hard to build because in order to make it work we had to learn all about gears and gear ratios. Initially things we going quickly, but did not have enough power to lift the basket all the way up. Eventually we got it working, but its is still too fussy and needs to be in exactly the correct place in order to work.
